Research and Planning: Software List

This is a list of all the equipment that I will need to Make my Magazine successful:
Camera
iMac
Photoshop
In-design
and Blogger to upload my progress on my magazine.

Research and Planning: Costume and Props List

Costumes:
Dark simple clothing

Some bright colored clothing clothing colours like (Bright Green, Pink, Red)
Belts
Just clothing that is simple but looks like stereotypical "Rock" type person.
Shops like new look, bank, River island, Top man and other shops like that sell clothing like this, but most people own clothing that are similar to the ones that are on here, so getting the clothing won't be a problem for me.

Research and Planning: Costume and Props List

Some of the props that I will need for my music magazine to make it look like other magazines like Kerrang and Q are:

Guitar

Microphones
The use of instruments in the background gives the image of people being in a band.

Posters in backgrounds of shots of people
A lot of younger people who listen to music like having posters of there favorite musicians on there walls, so I could maybe find someones room with the walls covered in posters.

The models for my shots.

Research and Planning: Double Page Spread Analysis

Genre
The genre of music that this is layout for is a rock / metal, the double page is a review of a massive concert featuring some of rock and metal biggest bands. The pictures used, the background of all the pictures are all colored but all the colours are dark, showing it being different to most colours, which is a lot of what people who enjoy this music think about them, they are different to everyone else.
Target audience
The target for this double page is for the rock metal audience, the images are quite aggressive and in your face, which is what metal represents.  The audience that this is targeted for is young adults, due to the older aged people don't really like this style of music, due to how loud and fast it is, young adults when going to concerts have the energy to be doing things like "mosh pits" at these types of concerts.  The people who like this style of music are shown in the image with all the younger people pushed up against the barrier enjoying the music, even though they are being squashed. Also there isn't a gender to the people who like this music, both males and females are shown in this double page, showing that every type of person likes this style of music.
Layout
The layout that is used is classic Kerrang style, all down the left hand side of the page is the main body of the text, at the top of it has the name of the main band that is being reviewed, also they use there "K rating" which the more K's there is, the better that they thought the gig was, it is something that some one who just wants a quick look at how the gig was, they can look at the rating and understand what it means due to the key being above the rating to avoid confusion. The center of the page, going towards the end of the right and side is all pictures, there is one main image of the lead signer of Avenged Sevenfold, with images of the band all around the main image. Also some of the other highlights from the gig are shown with some of the images around the main images as well.
Representation
The emotions that are shown is is a mix of calmness and angry and happiness, some of the images are medium close ups so they are showing the emotion as much as they can by it being right up in your face, but then some of the images when M Shadows (the lead signer) is with a member of Bullet for my valentine (other band), he has his arm around him and they are both smiling and are happy to see each other. So just from looking at the images you can see what the feelings between the people are just by looking by the expressions on there face.
Some of the clothes that they are wearing are really simple colours like black, also M Shadows(lead singer) has ripped the sleeves of his shirt, this isn't normal so again this is showing individuality.
Media Language
There are a lot of medium close ups used, also there is a long shot of the crowed to show the amount of people that have all come to see the band the like.  The lighting that is used is dark and is mainly all back lighted, so it is very bright when it needs to be for the crowd.  All most all the images that are used, some one has an instrument in there hands. I have taken note for this when I am taking pictures for my magazine, to get some images of people with props to make it look as close to a professional magazine as possible. The medium close ups are used to to show what the members of the band are doing with the instruments.

Research and Planning: Questionnaire Questions

This is the questionnaire that I handed out and got people to fill in.

Research and Planning: Questionnaire Results

Research and Planning: Contents Page Review

Genre
The genre of my magazine will be for a person who enjoys rock/metal.
People who like to go to gigs in the spare time.
Also people who like just talking about music with friends in there spare time.
The colours that are use are bold and are on more of a darker scale than a lot of other magazines. This is show that this is a more masculine type of magazine and is mainly targeted to males but also there are little hits of bight colours to get females eyes caught.
Target audience
The target audience for this magazine will be mainly aged 15-22, the reason i believe this is that most people who enjoy this modern style of music are in there youth, so i believe that they have targeted this magazine to young adults, by putting interests in that will catch there attention and keep them getting it every week.
Layout.
The layout that is used is very simple but effective, all the page numbers are all down the right hand side so they are out of the way and all in one place. Then in the center of the page there are all pictures of the latest stories, things like new albums, interviews with bands and gigs that have been and coming up.  They have made the headline stories bold and highlighted the text into yellow to make them stand out when peoples eyes glance past that die of the page, this way if they only want to read a little bit, thy can find out what page it is on quickly and easily.
Representation
Some of the images use shows some emotion of anger in the images, trying to put some of the emotion of the music they have on to you, also the way that they are dress shows them being different from everyone else, which is what a lot of people who listen to this type of music want, to be different to everyone else, so by looking at this, you get a sense of what they are trying to to.
Media Language
There is a lot mid shots used, in the picture that sands out the most of the lead singer of Prodigy, it is showing a media shot, just from the waste upwards, also on the images below like in the picture of Slipknot that is a mid shot but is also a group shot, showing the togetherness of the band where as the Prodigy picture he is on his own showing individuality. The Mast head is contents page it is just stating the obvious to avoid confusion, it is right at the top and is in yellow text in a black box to make it stand out. There is little pieces of text under all the images as well as a little slug line to each of the images.  Where the editors note is, the image used is a close up so we just see her because she was the only on who had a part of writing that little section. The use of bright colours makes the sections stands out to again try and make it show individuality. The two main stories that they are wanting the readers to look at a almost double the size of the other pictures, this is making it stand out and the writers are almost saying "Read this one", they will do this when it is like an accomplishment, like a band that has never being interviewed before, or if it is a main story that a lot of people are interested in, they will make it stand out from all the rest.

Research and Planning: Categorising My Audience

Age
The age that my magazine will be targeted to is 15 to 22, the reason for this is around this age is when people get a wide interest in music and also have the spare money to be able to buy my magazine every week.
Gender
The target that I am mainly looking at for my magazine will be male, due to the fact that there are more likely to be males wanting to buy it every week.
Occupation
The target will be split from students in either college or school or people who are full time employed, so they can come home and read a magazine after finishing there day.
Class
I will be looking at middle class upwards because these types of people will be more affluent so they will be able to buy this every week.
Wealth
It will be targeted to people who will have spending money if they are in school or a part time job so they will be able to afford the small amount that it is every week.
Interest
They will have to have a big interest in music, things like going to gigs, downloading the latest albums, general talking to friends about new and up coming music that they are interested in.
Outlook For Future
I would like my magazine to be read while people go on to things like university and when they go onto there jobs.
How I Am Going To Reach Them
I will be using a lot of masculine colour on the front cover, to make it stand out to the target that I am looking to pitch my magazine to. Also by making stories stand out on the cover, it will catch there interest and they will then hopefully go on to buying my magazine.
This will be the style of my target audience, a young adult who likes going to concerts and listen to music in any free time that they get. My magazine will be perfect for this type of person.

Research and Planning: Music Magazine Analysis

Genre
The genre of this magazine is a rock style.
This is one of the first magazines that I will be looking at to help me get ideas for my own magazine.
The main thing that I have noticed is that on a music magazine is that when a band is on a front cover, the lead singer is at the front of all the pictures, even in the smaller pictures, the lead is at the front of them.
The majority of rock bands are mainly all males, apart from a few successful bands who have females in them.  The main bands are all males, so with them on the front and with the singer at the front of the other members, you can tell at a quick glance that this is a rock magazine
The attitudes that they have is a calm feeling, but that is just because Foo Fighters are general calm people.  But most times some bands are quite angry and quite in your face. They are wearing quite simple clothes, just plain clothing nothing too fancy, they wear dark and simple clothing.
The audience that it is a rock type audience people who like rock/metal music. You can tell cause everything is in like black, white and red.
Layout
The heads of the members are covering the title of the magazine, to show more of a ruff type of look to it. The colours that are used are bright and simple, when base colours of black and white are being used, they are being countered by the use of yellow and red over them to make the text stand out on the cover. To show the ruff style of the magazine again, the images in the bottom left are not all the same size, facing the same way as each other, they are kind of just all put together.
Representation
The way that they are all stood, they are close together to show there feelings as a band. Also they just look calm and chilled to show they are used to doing things like this all the time and it isn't a big deal.  Also this again shows the feeling that they don't really care whats going on, non of the band members have like hair all neat and make up on, they have just shown up and took the picture as they are.
Media Language
There is a lot of medium close ups being used, also there is a close up on a person in the bottom right corner. The background of the image for this is a plain red background so there is full concentration on the image. The reason they have used a medium close up for the main image is to show the togetherness of the band, they are all side by side in a small space but yet they look comfortable. Everyone's faces are all together and close to each other, to show how close they are all the time as a band.
The magazines Masthead is at the top of the page, but the slug line is below and sort of centered in the middle.
